    • Henry W. Dunbar - November 15, 1846 - May 19, 1927. Military Service: Veteran of the Civil War; Enlisted March 8, 1865 at Sandy Creek, New York for a term of three years; Bounty of $700 paid by Oswego County; Mustered in March 8, 1865 as a Private in Company I, 193rd Regiment, New York Infantry Volunteers; Mustered out January 18, 1866 with Company at Harpers Ferry, West Virginia. Son of “unknown” and Sally Dunbar. Husband of Emily E. Stevens Dunbar.
      Newspaper Obituary - Thursday, May 26, 1927 Sandy Creek News - Sandy Creek, New York - Henry W. Dunbar - Henry W. Dunbar, 80, Civil War veteran and native of Oswego County, died last Friday afternoon at the home of his son, Leon G. Dunbar, Richland. He had been in poor health for a number of years and a few hours prior to his death suffered a shock of paralysis. Mr. Dunbar was born November 15, 1846, in the town of Sandy Creek and lived there until the Civil War, when he enlisted in Company 1, 193rd Regiment, New York Volunteers. Receiving an honorable discharge in 1866 with the rank of sergeant major at Harpers Ferry, Virginia, he then returned to the town of Boylston, in the eastern section of Oswego County. A short time later he was married to Miss Emily Stevens and lived there about 40 years. His wife died 17 years ago. While he had followed farming, he was a carpenter by trade and was engaged in the business until 12 years ago, when he went to Richland where he has since lived with his son. Mr. Dunbar was a member of Olmstead Post, G.A.R., Orwell, up to the time of its disbandment a number of years ago. Surviving are four sons, Frank S. Dunbar of Sandy Creek, Chester E. Dunbar of Richland, Dr. Alvah G. Dunbar of Pulaski and Leon Dunbar of Richland, and a daughter, Mrs. Nicholas J. Shafty of Denmark, Lewis County. Last rites were held from the Dunbar home at Richland at 1 o'clock Sunday afternoon, conducted by the Rev. Walter Clement of Taberg, pastor of the First Methodist Episcopal church.
