- Frederick Ellard Kastler, 81, of 1695 County Route 15, died Wednesday at his home, where he was under the care of Oswego County Hospice.
Mr. Kastler had lived at Boylston and Sandy Creek. He retired in 1985 as a mill worker for the former Blount Lumber Co. and previously was a lumberjack.
He was a member of Cable Trail Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8534.
Born Sept. 16, 1919, in Finley, N.D., son of Frederick and Bertha Goodnow Kastler, he moved at age 6 with his family to Boylston.
He served in the Army during World War II.
He married Maud Reid on Nov. 4, 1945, at her parents' home in Boylston. She died in March 1967.
He married Margaret Hollis Knoeller on Feb. 29, 1972, at Sandy Creek.
Surviving besides his wife are a daughter and son-in-law, Lori Ann and James Smith, Walworth; a son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Kay, Lacona; a daughter-in-law, Sandra Kastler, Lacona; a stepdaughter, Karen Lippe, Palm Springs, Fla.; two stepsons, Peter and Thomas Knoeller, both of West Palm Beach, Fla.; four sisters, Mrs. Franklin (Mildred) Hill, Redfield, Mrs. Carl (Lillian) Ridgeway and Donna Reynolds, both of Lacona, and Mrs. Ralph (Sally) Bettinger, Mannsville; eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and six stepgrandchildren.
A son, Michael, died Oct. 31, 1999. Two sisters, Helen Yerdon Stinson and Gail K. Allen Brown, also died before him.
The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Summerville Funeral Home, Sandy Creek, with the Rev. David Rudd officiating. Spring burial will be in Wesleyan Cemetery.
Calling hours will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Donations may be made to Oswego County Hospice.
