Newspaper Obituary - Friday, May 31, 1940 Oswego Palladium Times - Oswego, New York - Alfred Ackley Dies at Orwell - Heart Attack Fatal to Richland Man on Memorial Day - Richland, May 31 - Alfred Ackley, a resident of Richland for a number of years, died at the home of Mrs. Ellen Davis Montague, Orwell, Thursday morning. He had gone to Orwell to dig up some bushes which Mrs. Montague had given him and he was stricken with a heart attack when he finished the work. Dr. A. B. Thompson of Pulaski was called, but the man was dead when he arrived. Mr. Ackley was born in Redfield in 1867, the son of Jacob and Maria Osborn Ackley. For 40 years he had been a section hand on the New York Central Railroad and since his retirement had operated a farm near Richland. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Aurelia Ackley, and a sister, Miss Martha Ackley. Funeral services will be held at the home Sunday noon at 1 o'clock Eastern Standard Time, conducted by the Rev. William Rutherford, and the Rev. Charles T. Martin. Burial will be in Richland Cemetery.
Newspaper Obituary - Wednesday, July 24, 1940 Pulaski Democrat - Pulaski, New York - Alfred L. Ackley was born in Redfield, Oswego County, New York, November 27, 1867. He was the ninth one of the ten children born to Jacob and Maria (Osborn) Ackley. On November 27, 1893, he married Aurelia, daughter of Edward B. and Julia Estelle (Streeter) Clemons of Redfield, New York. Rev. M. T. Hills of Adam's, New York, was the officiating clergyman. In 1898 they came to Richland, New York, where they have since resided. On May 30, 1940, Mr. Ackley suddenly passed from this life to the other world He is survived by his wife, Aurelia; and one sister, Miss Martha Ackley of Redfield, a well-known school teacher in this section for many years. Funeral services were conducted at Mr. Ackley's home in Richland, Sunday, June 2d, by Rev. Wm. Rutherford, assisted by Rev. Charles Martin. The Orwell Rebekah Lodge attended in a body, and Spring Brook Lodge of Richland I. O. O. F., conducted burial services at Richland cemetery. Alfred L. Ackley will be long remembered as a kindly, unostentatious man, a good neighbor, and a loyal friend.
