Newspaper Obituary - Sunday, August 31, 1997 Watertown Daily Times - Watertown, New York - Ruth Armstrong, Retired Beauty Shop Owner - Ruth F. Armstrong, 96, formerly of Church Street, died Friday at Samaritan-Keep Home, Watertown, where she had resided since 1988. Mrs. Armstrong owned and operated a beauty shop in Orwell for more than 50 years, retiring in 1979. Born December 22, 1900, in Orwell, daughter of Ward and Elizabeth Hilton Finster, she attended Orwell schools and was a lifelong resident of Orwell. She married Robert E. Armstrong July 17, 1918, in Orwell. Mr. Armstrong died February 7, 1970. Mrs. Armstrong was a member of Orwell Union Church, its DALKED (Do a Little Kindness Everyday) Class and the Orwell Gleaners. Surviving are a son, Arnold E., Altmar; a daughter, Barbara A. Stowell, Lacona; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and 11 great-great- grandchildren. A private funeral will be Monday at Foster-Hax Funeral Home, Pulaski, with the Rev. Catherine Salisbury officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. There will be no calling hours. Donations may be made to Samaritan Keep-Home Activity Department or to Samaritan-Keep Home's fifth floor.
