- Newspaper Obituary - May 11, 2010 Post Standard - Joseph F. Mangano - May 9, 2010 - Joseph F. Mangano, 89, of Minetto, passed away Sunday, May 9, at St. Luke Health Services, Oswego. He was born in Oswego to the late Charles and Elizabeth (Castiglia) Mangano. He had lived most of his life in Minetto, NY. Mr. Mangano was a United States veteran, having served from 1944 to 1968 in the Air Force and Army during WW II and the Korean War. He retired in 1986 from Carrier Corporation, Syracuse. He then served as the Minetto town code enforcement officer and later as the Minetto town supervisor. He then became the Minetto town's chief tax assessor. Mr. Mangano served as the adjutant of American Legion Post #486, Minetto. He was a member of the Oswego Bowling Hall of Fame and the Fulton Elks Lodge. He was an avid golfer. He was pre-deceased by his sisters, Florence Bellomo, Carmella Bugow, Jane Trepasso, Edna Mangano, Frances Chiarella and Delores Gentile, and his brother, Anthony Mangano. Mr. Mangano is survived by his wife of 60 years, Betty (Baldwin) Mangano; his children, Judy (Robert) Young, James Mangano, Paul (Barbara) Mangano, Teresa (Tom) Schaffer and Catherine (Gary) Hubbard; 14 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be 9 a.m. Thursday in Sugar & Scanlon Funeral Home, Oswego, with Pastor Bruce Schrader officiating. Burial will be in Minetto Cemetery, where the Fulton VFW Post #569 will give military honors. Calling hours will be 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Sugar & Scanlon Funeral Home, 147 W. 4th St., Oswego. The family has requested that donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
