      Richard E. Shear, 79, formerly of 10332 Route 152, died Friday in Samaritan Keep Home, Watertown, where he had resided since November.

      Born Dec. 8, 1922, in Watertown, son of Earl M. and Lillian Bolton Shear, he lived in Woodville and attended Union Academy, Belleville.

      He served with the Army in Europe during World War II.

      He married Betty Ruth LaRock on Aug. 22, 1943, at the Presbyterian Church in Deridder, La. The couple operated a dairy farm.

      Mr. Shear was a former member of the Henderson town board and treasurer of the Adams Assembly of God.

      Surviving besides his wife are a son and his wife, the Rev. Douglas R. and Theresa Shear, Massena; two daughters and their husbands, Susan R. and Donald W. Sutcliffe, Sackets Harbor, and Linda and Ed Forsythe, Palm Bay, Fla.; a brother, Robert W. Shear, Zephyrhills, Fla., four grandchildren and four great- grandchildren.

      A sister, Lorna S. Cobb, died Jan. 9, 1988.

      The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Monday at Carpenter-Stoodley Funeral Home, Belleville, with the Rev. Gene Hagelin, pastor of Adams Assembly of God, and Mr. Shear's son, the Rev. Douglas Shear, pastor of Bethel Assembly of God, Massena, officiating. Burial will be in Woodside Cemetery, Belleville.

      Calling hours will be 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday and 1 to 3 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

      Contributions may be made to the Adams Assembly of God or the Bethel Assembly of God.
