    • Newspaper Obituary - Saturday, January 6, 1900 Rochester Chronicle - Rochester N.Y. - A Fatal Fall - Sad Circumstances of the Death of the Widow of Judge Spaulding - Philadelphia, Jan . 5 - Ellen Spaulding, widow of the late Judge Spaulding, of district court No. 2. of New York, died in the Hahnemann Hospital today from the effects of a fall yesterday in the Reading railway station. Mrs. Spaulding had been an inmate of the almshouse here. She had secured Christmas leave of absence from the institution and was visiting a woman by whom she was occasionally employed as seamstress. Mrs. Spaulding had just left the train when she fell and it was thought she was intoxicated. A policeman sent her to the station home and later she was removed to the hospital, where she died from a fractured skull. Mrs. Spaulding was quite wealthy a few years ago, but mismanagement of her husband's estate caused her to lose all. She had considerable jewelry, and when this was pawned or sold she became a public charge. She came to this city after her husbands death. She leaves a married son in this city and a daughter in St.Vincents Covent, New York.
