      Ellen M. Gleason O'Donnell

      Ellen M. Gleason O'Donnell, 87, of East Syracuse, passed away Friday, June 10, 2011. She was born in Minoa and was a communicant of St. Matthew's Church.

      She was the director of religious education at St. Matthew's Church for 35 years, and prior to that she was a medical secretary for Dr. Fulmer. She was predeceased by her husband, L. Edward O'Donnell, in 1976 and two sons, Casey W. and Hugh A. O'Donnell.

      She is survived by five sons, Michael P. (Gail) and Dann J. (Joan), both of East Syracuse, Sean T. (Ellen) of Holcomb, NY, Martin A. (Robin) of Hannibal and James B. (Patty) of East Syracuse; six daughters, Mary E. "Betty" O'Donnell of Syracuse, Kathleen A. O'Donnell of Combermere, Ont., Marjorie E. O'Donnell of Albany, Molly A. (Scott) Jahnke of Liverpool, Bridget S. (Paul) Grevelding of East Syracuse, and Norah J. (Peter) Grimes of Boston, MA; daughter-in-law, Michelle O'Donnell of Buffalo; 23 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three sisters, Virginia (Hank) Mallinger of Cicero, Arlene (Ennie) Brownell of Kirkville and Petie (Steve) Bell of Atlanta, GA; sisters-in-law, Helen O'Donnell of Syracuse and Mary Ellen O'Donnell of Carlisle, PA; one brother-in-law, Robert O'Donnell of Minoa; and several nieces and nephews.

      Funeral services will be 8:30 a.m. Tuesday in MATHEWSON-FORANI FUNERAL HOME, Inc., and 9 a.m. in St. Matthew's Church. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Dewitt. Friends may call at the funeral home, 206 Kinne St., East Syracuse, on Monday from 4 to 7 p.m.

      In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Matthew's Food Pantry, 229 W. Yates St., East Syracuse, NY 13057 or to a charity of one's choice.
