ISMA G. KITCHEN
ROME -- Mrs. Isma G. Kitchen, 52, of 212 Depeyster St., former head surgical nurse at Rome State School died Thursday in Roswell Park Hospital, Buffalo.
She was born in Cortland, daughter of Rollo and Lucy Burlingame Briggs. She was educated in Chittenango schools and was graduated form Oneida City Hospital School of Nursing.
After completing her nursing education, she was employed at Rome State School, retiring in 1954. Then; after three years private duty nursing, she became resident nurse at the Gerry Home for the Aged and Children, Gerry, N.Y.
Ill health forced her retirement in 1960 and she returned to Rome to reside with her daughter, Mrs. Jerry L. Althouse. She was married in 1931 to Emmons L. Kitchen. Mrs. Kitchen was a member of the Oneida Free Methodist Church, its WSCS and CYC and the WCTU.
Besides her daughter, she leaves a son, Edgar L., Rome; four brothers, Ralph Briggs, Seattle, Wash.; Harold Briggs, Cortland; Floyd Briggs, New York Mills, and Gerald Briggs, Cazenovia; two sisters, Mrs. Frank Grago, Syracuse and Mrs. Warren VanDeusen, Chittenango.
The funeral will be at 2 Monday from the Oneida Fred Methodist Church with the Rev. W. Dale Buhl, pastor officiating. Burial will be in Verona Cemetery.
