    • Obituary - Jerry L. Althouse, 81, of 346 Stone St., Oneida, passed away on Thursday, October 25, 2018, at Oneida Healthcare where he had been a patient since October 17, 2018. He was born on June 24, 1937, in Oneida, the son of Ivan C. and Freda H. Clark Althouse. He was a graduate of VVS High School, class of 1955. On July 16, 1997, Jerry was united in marriage to Doris M. Johannes Leach in Coventry, VA. He proudly served his country as a member of the National Guard during the Korean War and Vietnam Conflict. Jerry retired as a greeter from WalMart in Oneida. He was previously employed as a salesman for Rich Plan Foods, E.C. Crooks Memorials, and Olan Mills. He was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Verona. He was a lifetime member and Past President of the Pulaski Lions Club #8236 and a former District Governor for New York State Lions Club. He was a member of the North Country Stompers and the Oneida American Legion Post 169. He was an avid woodworker and enjoyed writing children’s stories and poems. Surviving besides his loving wife, Doris; are three children, Daniel (Melissa) Althouse, of Rochester, David Althouse (Kimberly Wells), of Oneida, and Christy (Don) Ehlers, of Iron River, WI; a daughter-in-law, Bonnie Skellington, of Rome; a brother, John (Marjorie) Althouse, of Nashua, NH; two sisters, Jean Spink, and Susan Rose, both of Gainesville, FL; his former wives, Imogene Harrington, of Rome, and Sandra Althouse, of Pulaski; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Jerry was predeceased by a son, Donald Althouse; and two sisters, Janice Clemens, and Joan Weiler. A Memorial Service will be held 6PM Friday, November 2, 2018, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, 4897 Old Oneida Road, Verona, with Pastor Katie Yahns officiating. Friends are invited and may call from 5 to 6 PM prior to the service. In lieu of flowers Memorial Contributions may be made to either the American Diabetes Association, American Cancer Society or St. Peter’s Lutheran Church.
