- LENA E. MASON, CITY WOMAN’S MOTHER, DIES

Lena E. Mason, 85, Harwood Drive, longtime area resident, died at 10:20 a.m. Saturday at the Mercy Center for Health Services, Watertown, where she had been a patient since May 27.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Sandy Creek Wesleyan Church with the Rev. Melvyn S. Connell, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the Wesleyan Cemetery.
Calling hours will be from noon to 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Sandy Creek Wesleyan Church. Arrangements are with the Summerville Funeral Home, Sandy Creek.
Surviving are two sons, Othmer Briggs, Sandy Creek, and Keith Briggs, Lacona; two daughters, Dicia Whipple, Lacona, and Mildred Vincent, Watertown; a stepson, Charles Mason, Canastota; two stepdaughters, Mariel Jordal, Lacona, and Arreta Brown, Canastota; 12 grandchildren; 15 step-grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a brother, Robert Gibbs, Richland; three sisters, Marjorie Bennett, Pulaski, Hazel Powelczyk, Central Square, and Ruth Russell, Vermont, and several nieces and nephews.
A brother, Col. Theodore Presley, and two sisters, Thelma Wright and Doris Murry, died before her.
She was born Sept. 2, 1907, in Arctic, Delaware County, a daughter of Charles and Ada Presley Gibbs. She was adopted by her grandparents, Benjamin and Martha Presley, at the age of 2.
She married Ralph F. Briggs of Lacona Aug. 2, 1924. Mr. Briggs, an employee of the Blount Lumber Co., died in May 1959.
She married Charles S. Mason of Orwell in January 1962. Mr. Mason died Aug. 10, 1967.
Mrs. Mason had been a resident of the Sandy Creek-Lacona area for the past 68 years.
She was a member of the Sandy Creek Wesleyan Church.
