- Shirley Jean Stevens, 82, of Mexico, NY, was called home to the Lord on April 28, 2009. Shirley was born on April 10, 1927 in Syracuse, NY to the late Viola Rang and John Andrew Perkins. She served as a surgical technician in Ft. Sam, Houston, TX. She was predeceased by a daughter, Wendy JoAnne Semones in January of 2007. She was joined in matrimony to William Stevens on April 8, 1949 in Guadalupe Co., Sequin, TX. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She dearly loved her family and showed this by her Christian life and her love of preparing delicious meals for family gatherings and sewing clothes for her children. She was gifted in baking pies and loved trying new recipes. She loved birds and imitating their sounds. She was a member of the North Mexico Methodist Church. She leaves to cherish her memory her husband of 60 years, William Elwood Stevens of Orwell and her children, Charlene Joy Karlsen (William) of Edenton, NC, William E. Stevens Jr. (Becky) of Lacona, NY, John Andrew Stevens of Edenton, NC, Pamela Marie Rice (Darwin) of Mexico, NY and Diana Leslie Stevens of Oswego, NY; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; three brothers, Ernie (Rose) Perkins of Cazenovia, Donald Perkins of California and Norman Perkins, Syracuse, NY. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday from the Harter Funeral Home, 9 Washington Ave., Mexico, NY. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Orwell, NY. Calling hours will be 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Shirley's memory to the Alzheimer's Association.
