- Newspaper Obituary - October 1864 Mexico Independent - Pulaski Items - On Thursday of last Week Emma J., a daughter of Mr. Levi Upton, of this town, aged about 7 years, was burned to death, by her clothes taking fire from the stove. Her mother had left her at the house, with one or two smaller children, while she went to a neighbor's on an errand. She was absent not to exceed half an hour, and on her return found her daughter dead in the wood-house, where she had gone after vainly endeavoring to extinguish the flames on a lounge, and otherwise. Her clothes were almost entirely burned off. It appears that one of the younger children aged about four years, attempted to put out the fire by throwing on water, using up all there was in the house.
