Alexander L. Ching, 68, of Spring Street died Sunday at University Hospital in Syracuse after a brief illness.
A native of Utica, Mr. Ching lived in Mexico since 1973. He was a steamfitter employed by Local 79 of Utica.
A Navy veteran of World War II, Mr Ching was a member of the Edick-Hamlink VFW Post 369 in Mexico.
Surviving are his wife, the former Beverly Marmon; one daughter, Mary Therese Ching of Mexico; three sons, Louis and Gary, both of Schenectady, and Alexander of Fallon, Nev.; one brother, Louis Ching of El Toro, Calif.; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Harter Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Mexico Village Cemetery.
Calling hours are 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, 5305 Washington Ave.
Contributions may be made to McFee Ambulance Corps or the Mexico Volunteer Fire Department.

Alexander L. Ching, 68, Spring Street, died Sunday at the State University of New York Health Science Center, Syracuse, after a brief illness.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Harter Funeral Home. Burial will be in Mexico Village Cemetery.
Calling hours will be 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Donations may be made to the McFee Ambulance Corps or the Mexico Volunteer Fire Department.
Surviving are his wife of 44 years, the former Beverly Marmon; a daughter, Mary Therese Ching, Mexico; three sons, Louis and Gary, both of Schenectady, and Alexander, Fallon, Nev.; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a brother, Louis, El Toro, Calif., and several nieces and nephews.
Born April 8, 1926, in Utica, a son of Louis W. and Lucy DesMond Ching, he served in the Navy during World War II.
Mr. Ching had lived in Mexico since 1973 and was a steam-fitter for Local 79, Utica.
He was a member of the Edick-Hamlin Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 369 and a member and past president of the Mexico Lions Club. In 1986, he received the Melvin Jones Fellowship Award.
