- Herbert A. Miller, age 97, life resident of Fernwood passed away Wednesday at his home. Herbert was born April 15, 1926, in Caughdenoy, NY, the son of Arleton and Mable Simmons Miller. He graduated from Altmar High School in 1942 and attended Syracuse University. Herbert served proudly in the United States Army from 1943 until 1946 and from 1950 until 1953. During his second enlistment, Herbert was taken as a POW during the Korean War, being held from October 30, 1950, until his release on August 18, 1953. Between enlistments he worked as a lineman.
Herbert was married to his wife of 69-years, Joyce Ann Webb, on October 2, 1954. He was employed by Rollway Bearing in Syracuse for 34 years, retiring in 1988. Herbert was a member of the Robert Edwards American Legion Post #358 in Pulaski and the Pulaski VFW#7289. He was a former member of the Pulaski Calvary Baptist Church and a current member of the Fellowship Baptist Church of Colosse.
Surviving are his wife, Joyce, one daughter, Jodi Miller of Fernwood, grandson Chad (Celeste) Metott of Mexico, daughter in-law, Wendy Miller of Mexico, brother in-law, Davey Webb of Fernwood, and sisters in-law, Shirley Bellows of North Carolina and Marilyn Halsey of Mexico as well as several nieces and nephews. Herbert was predeceased by his son, Todd Miller, two brothers, Harold and Arleton Miller, and three sisters, Audrey, Violet and Ellnora.
Funeral services will be held at noon, Thursday, November 30th at the Fellowship Baptist Church, 2604 US Route 11, Parish, NY with burial with military honors in South Richland Cemetery in Fernwood. Calling hours will be held from 10 a.m. to noon at the church prior to the funeral. Arrangements by Foster-Hax Funeral Home, located at 52 Park Street, Pulaski.
