  • Notes
    • Carroll Richard Wade passed away on December 6, 2023, at the age of 84, while bravely fighting cancer. He was born on August 23, 1939, in Putney, Vermont, to Charles and Marjorie Brooks Wade. In 1955, he moved to Pulaski, where he spent the early part of his life. Carroll was a charming and social young man who loved Harley Davidson Motorcycles and working with his hands. It was during this time that he met Karyl Bettinger (Moyer), who he later married on October 15, 1960. Together, they had four children: Lisa Hellenberg (Kurt), Michael Wade, Eric Wade (Valerie), and Kitryn Ellis (David). Even though they divorced, they were additionally blessed with eleven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Carroll also had three sisters, five brothers, numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and several close friends, all of whom he loved dearly.

Carroll was known for his great sense of humor and storytelling, which he accompanied with a warm smile and a contagious laugh. He enjoyed hunting, drawing, painting, birdwatching, and carpentry. He loved spending time with people over coffee or breakfast and Christmas was his favorite time of the year. He looked like Santa Claus, and often dressed up for the occasion. He enjoyed seeing the joy on the faces of children (and adults) when they saw him in public, and assumed he was the real deal!

Carroll was a member of Boilermakers Local 175 and was a Freemason. He worked as a Research Cottrell Construction Project Manager, building clean-air precipitators in foreign countries to help companies meet global emission regulations. He was fortunate to have traveled and lived in many countries, such as Indonesia, South Africa, New Zealand, Australia, and Canada, along with many states throughout the U.S. He was quick to make friends and appreciated the different languages and customs of the people with whom he lived and worked. Carroll will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him.

Some of Carroll's immediate family is out of state or abroad, so a private celebration of life will be held in the future, to be determined. The family would like to extend a special thank you to all who supported him throughout his illness, helping him with medical appointments, home visits, meals, errands, repairs, or simply through phone calls and letters. Your immeasurable kindness and friendship will always be remembered.
