- Online Obituary - May 7, 2012 - Daniel B. "Danny" Sherlock Jr. - Mr. Daniel "Danny" Barnes Sherlock Jr., 76, of Syracuse and Largo, Florida, passed away peacefully in Florida on May 7, 2012, after a sudden illness. A native of Syracuse, Danny was the son of the late Daniel Barnes Sherlock Sr. and Sally Brown Sherlock. A graduate of St. John the Baptist High School, Danny was employed for 43 years with the former Niagara Mohawk as a lineman, retiring in 1994. Danny was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing, riding his motorcycle and gardening. He also enjoyed spending the summers at Brennan Beach and wintering in Largo, Florida. He was an Indy and NASCAR enthusiast, with a passion for Syracuse University sports and the New York Yankees. In his spare time, he enjoyed reading and playing video games with his wife and grandchildren. He was a lifetime communicant of St. John the Baptist Church; member of the Sandy Pond Sportsmen Club; lifetime member of the Pastime Athletic Club, and member of its Pitch League; member of the I.B.E.W. LOCAL #79. Danny was predeceased by his brother, James P. Sherlock, in 2010. Survived by his wife of 56 years, Jean LaRose Sherlock; five daughters, Mary (Steven) Gajewski, Linda (Paul) Gangemi, Nancy (Tom) Medicis, Diane (Newton) Baker and Tracey (Pat Amato) Kordas; 18 grandchildren, Daniel, (Janine), Joseph, Amanda, Kathleen, Jefferey, (Bethany), Steven, Nicholas, Christine, (Marc), Jillian, Silas, Devin, Jessica, Christopher, Ryan and Angeline. Above all, Danny was a family man who cherished time spent with his children and grandchildren and the "love of his life," his wife Jean. A funeral Mass will be held on TUESDAY at 10 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Church, 406 Court Street, Syracuse. Burial will be private. Calling hours are MONDAY from 4 to 7 p.m. at Keegan-Osbelt-Knight Funeral Home, 900 N. Salina Street, Syracuse. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that contributions may be made to the Western and Central New York Chapter of the LEUKEMIA & LYMPHOMA Society, 4043 Maple Road, Suite 105, Amherst, NY 14226.
