Notes - Newspaper Obituary - August 30, 2000 Watertown Daily Times - PAUL D. PETRIE OWNED CHARTER SERVICE - The funeral for Paul D. Petrie, 55, of 1091 Albion Cross Road, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Foster-Hax Funeral Home. Burial will be private. Mr. Petrie died Monday from head and chest injuries he suffered in an all-terrain vehicle accident at his home. He was pronounced dead at Oswego Hospital. Calling hours are from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Mr. Petrie owned Fish Hawk Charter Service for 15 years and previously had owned Petrie's Bakery. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7289, Robert Edwards American Legion Post 358 and Central Square Trap League. Born Oct. 10, 1944, in Pulaski, a son of Harry and Thelma Robinson Petrie, he graduated from Pulaski High School in 1962 and Jefferson Community College, Watertown, in 1966. He served in the Army during the Vietnam War. He married Sherry Johnson on Oct. 20, 1984. A previous marriage to Joann C. Littler ended in divorce. Surviving besides his wife are a daughter, Jennifer Schlag, East Syracuse; a brother, Sandy Creek, and four grandchildren. A son, Scott, died April 27. Donations may be made to the Center for Children's Cancer and Blood Disorders, 750 E. Adams St., Syracuse, N.Y. 13210.
Newspaper Obituary - August 29, 2000 Syracuse Post Standard - ATV CRASH KILLS MAN - An Albion man, riding his all-terrain vehicle to pick up his mail, died Monday after he apparently drove the vehicle into a tree in his yard, state police said. Paul Petrie, 55, of 1091 Albion Cross Road died at Oswego Hospital, a hospital spokesman said. Petrie had ridden the four-wheel ATV from his house, gotten the mail from his mailbox, which is about 50 yards from his house, and was on his way back when the accident happened at 2:05 p.m., Sgt. Chris Smith said. The tree is about 10 yards from the front of the house. Petrie's wife, Sherry, who was mowing the lawn, called 911, Smith said. When rescue workers arrived, Petrie was lying next to the tree and ATV, said Fire Chief William Holcomb of the Altmar Volunteer Fire Department. The impact threw Petrie against the tree, the fire chief said. Petrie was unconscious and suffered severe cuts to his head, Holcomb and Smith said. Northern Oswego County Ambulance took Petrie to the hospital, Smith said. It was unclear what caused Petrie to drive into the tree. Investigators weren't sure how fast Petrie was going, Smith said.
