- John Halsey Obituary
John D. Halsey, 84, formerly of Phoenix, NY, passed away Friday, April 19, 2013 at the Masonic Home Care Facility in Utica, NY. John was born May 10, 1928 in Mexico, NY, the son of Wales and Elizabeth Pickens Halsey. He graduated from Mexico Academy and Central School. John graduated college with an associate's degree in accounting. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII and was recalled to duty during the Korean Police Action. John married Ann E. Barlow and she predeceased him in 1979. He then married Marilyn Tietz who survives him. John retired from the National Grange Mutual Insurance Company where he was a commercial underwriter for 40 years. He was a member of the Mexico Masonic Lodge #136 for 50 years, former member of the Scottish and York Rights, the Media Temple Shriners and Mexico American Legion.
John is survived by his wife, Marilyn; two sons, James and his wife, Jennifer of Toccoa, GA, and Edward of Hannibal; two stepdaughters, Melanie Richards of FL, Susan Lynk of Syracuse; 10 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
There will be no calling hours and a graveside service will be held at the White Chapel Memory Gardens in DeWitt, NY at the convenience of the family.
