- G. Grover Britton Obituary
G. Grover Britton, age 95, life resident of Williamstown passed away Sunday at his home. Grover was born July 25, 1928, in Altmar, the son of Fredrick and Roxanne Trumble Britton. He attended Altmar Union School. Grover served in the United States Navy from 1945 until 1947 and was stationed in the South Pacific aboard the USS Sierra where he earned a Purple Heart. He was married to his wife of 57-years, Faylene Balch, on November 4, 1948, and she passed away in 2005. Grover was employed by Camden Wire for 40-years, retiring in 1989.
Grover was a life member and past Commander and County Commander of the Williamstown Legion #1128. He was also a member of the VFW #136 and the Stilbrook Fish and Game Club. Grover was a volunteer with the Williamstown Fire Department for 10 years, serving as the Fire Police Capitan. He enjoyed the outdoors, and spent time gardening, hunting and fishing.
Surviving, are three daughters, Belva Comins (George) of Pulaski, Cathleen (Bruce) Smith of Parish, and Teresa (Dale) Reid of Lacona, three sons, Grover (Kathleen) Britton of Dunellen, FL, Richard (Marcia) Britton of Williamstown, and Terry Britton of Williamstown, siblings, Louis Britton, Jackie Britton, Peter Britton, Alice Eldred and Phoebe Wheeler, 16 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren. Grover was predeceased by one son, Fredrick Britton, two daughters in-law, Candy Britton and Elaine Britton, and two great-grandchildren Kaitlyn and Joshua.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m., Thursday, February 15th at the Foster-Hax Funeral Home, 52 Park Street, Pulaski with a spring burial in Fairview Cemetery, Williamstown. Calling hours will be held from noon to 2 p.m. prior to the funeral.
