      Anita Louise Wheeler
      February 9, 2024
Anita Louise Wheeler, nee Morehouse, of Pulaski, passed away peacefully on
February 9th, 2024 at St Joesph's Hospital in Syracuse with her family at her bedside.
Anita was born on June 7, 1944 in Petaluma, CA, the daughter of Donald and Helen (Fargo) Morehouse. On June 4, 1966 she married James H Wheeler at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Watertown, NY.
Anita is predeceased by her parents, and her brother Donald Jr. Anita is survived by her husband, James and her children James (Catherine) Wheeler, Jack (Kelly) Wheeler, Jennifer Wheeler, Jeremy (Emily) Wheeler, and Jonathan Wheeler; Anita was also blessed with four grandchildren (Christopher, Joshua, Adrienne, Coraline). Anita is also survived by her sisters, Helen (Robert) Hillis, Annie (Scott) Greene and Mary (Raymond) Weston.
Anita graduated from Immaculate Heart Academy in June 1962. She then attended Mercy Hospital School of Nursing and graduated in August 1965. She worked as a nurse at Mercy Hospital until marrying in 1966. Anita was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker. She enjoyed spending time with family including regular Sunday dinners together. In her spare time, she enjoyed knitting, sewing, gardening and baking. Anita loved printing greeting cards and sending them to family and friends for all occasions.
For several years she was a puppy raiser for Guiding Eyes for the Blind. She enjoyed traveling since she was a child including places such as Africa, Germany, Alaska and throughout the US, and was gifted a surprise family vacation in West Virginia for her and Jim's 50th wedding anniversary. Anita enjoyed annual camping trips to the Adirondacks with family.
As a nurse she understood the need for medical education, so she gifted herself to the Anatomical Gift Program at Upstate Medical University.
Per Anita's wishes, no services will be held.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made in her memory to St. Joseph's Health Foundation, with a designation to College of Nursing General Scholarship Fund (https://giving.sjhsyr.org) or the charity of your choice.
