      George A. Harvey, 71, Alpine Meadows Road, Porter Corners, died Wednesday at Saratoga Hospital, Saratoga Springs, after a long illness.

      Mr. Harvey served in the Army from Aug. 16, 1946, until his discharge Jan. 23, 1948.

      He was employed for several years on the family farm at Sandy Creek and in a variety of occupations in the Sandy Creek area.

      After moving to Porter Corners in 1952, he was employed with the International Paper Co., Corinth, for many years. He was also an occasional self-employed barber.

      In his youth, he enjoyed hunting and fishing. In later years, he enjoyed cross-stitching and spending time with his family.

      Born Oct. 25, 1926, at Tupper Lake, son of George and Isabelle Sovey Harvey, he attended Sandy Creek schools. He married Muriel E. Lasell on July 3, 1948, at Sandy Creek, where the couple resided for four years before moving to Porter Corners, where they lived for 45 years.

      Surviving besides his wife are four daughters, Mrs. John (Elizabeth) O'Leary, Lake George, Mrs. Morris (Georgette) Clothier, Hadley, and Mrs. William (Shirley) Holmwood and Susan Chandler, both of Porter Corners; five brothers, Peter, Robert and Mark, all of Sandy Creek, and Howard and Clark, both of Lakeland, Fla.; three sisters, Lu Coughlin, Lakeland, Shirley Lasell, Pierrepont Manor, and Grace Lasell, Sandy Creek; 11 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

      A son, Thomas A., a brother, Harry Harvey, a stepbrother, Charles Leete, a granddaughter and a great-granddaughter, died before him.

      Arrangements with Densmore Funeral Home, Corinth, are private and at the family's convenience.
