Janice E. Monnat
August 7, 1936 - April 28, 2024
Janice E. Monnat, 87, of Pulaski, NY; passed away on Sunday, April 28, 2024. Janice was born in Cortland, New York on August 7, 1936 to C. Keith and Margaret Colburn. The family moved to Buffalo during her younger years where she completed most of her early schooling. She finished her high school education in Fort Worth, Texas in 1953, graduating at the age of 16.
She attended Grove City College in Pennsylvania, majoring in religion and philosophy and minoring in English and Education. After earning her Bachelor of Arts degree, she took her first teaching job at Chazy Central School and after one year accepted a position at Carthage Central School, and completed her graduate work at Albany State and Saint Lawrence University
While teaching at Carthage, she met and married Richard Monnat on August 20, 1960. She began teaching at Pulaski Jr. Sr. High School in 1962. She retired from Pulaski in 1992 after teaching for generations of students.
Janice was active in various organizations including Alpha Delta Kappa, an honorary teaching society, and the Pulaski Monday Historical Club. She served on the Pulaski Library Board as President for many years. She was a Town of Richland Councilwoman in the late 1980s and early 90s.
Her family was her greatest source of pride. She loved spending time with family and always said, “I have the best family.” She was the center of her family.
She was a fighter until the end.
Janice was predeceased by her husband Richard P Monnat, her mother Margaret Colburn and her father C. Keith Colburn.
Janice is survived by children, Michael (Jennifer) Monnat, Scott (Susan) Monnat and Kathryn (Kevin) LaDuc, her 7 grandchildren, Paul (Cassie) Monnat, Elizabeth Monnat, Samuel (Lacey Sheeley) Monnat, Sarah Monnat, Steven Monnat, Renée LaDuc and Chloe LaDuc along with her sisters Alice (Joseph) Distell, Betty (Philip) Scott. She will be missed by her many nieces and nephews as well as family friends.
Funeral Services will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Monday, May 6, 2024 at Park United Methodist Church, 2 Hubble Street, Pulaski, New York 13142 with burial following at the Pulaski Cemetery. Arrangements are in care of Harter Funeral Home, Inc. Mexico, NY.

The family wishes to thank the nurses and staff on Floor 8G at Upstate Hospital and the staff of Park Terrace, Radisson.
