James Ackerman, 80, Pine Meadows Road, died Saturday at Samaritan Medical Center, Watertown.
Mr. Ackerman was an engineer with Allied Chemical in Solvay, retiring in 1983 after 33 years of service.
Born June 12, 1918, in Baltimore, Md., son of Henry and Annie Martin Ackerman, he moved to Pine Meadows Road in 1948. He served in the Merchant Marine during World War II.
He married Rose V. Ray on May 27, 1944. She died Nov. 21, 1996.
Surviving are three daughters, Rosemary F. Reale, Syracuse, Joan C. Johnson, Cicero, and Judyann B. Grant, Sandy Creek; two sons, James R. and Larry T., both of Altmar, 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Foster-Hax Funeral Home, Pulaski, with the Rev. Timothy Hurne, pastor of Pine Meadows Wesleyan Church, officiating. Burial will be in the spring in Evergreen Cemetery, Orwell.
