- John C. Jones Obituary
John Constantine Jones, 88, resident of Pulaski, passed away with his family by his side on May 24, 2024. John enjoyed a 35-year career at Pulaski High School as a P.E. teacher, varsity baseball coach, and athletic director. Coach Jones left an indelible mark on many athletes over the years, teaching skills that are valued long after stepping off the field.
John graduated from Croton-Harmon High School and was drafted to the Philadelphia Phillies farm team before a shoulder injury sidelined his professional baseball aspirations. After he served in the Korean War, he received a BS from Florida Southern College and an MS in Physical Education from Ithaca College.
A consummate storyteller, John set an example of doing the right thing over the easy thing. Passionate about mentoring coaches and nurturing the talent of young ball players, he stressed learning fundamentals and working hard. He valued performance in the classroom and the importance of reading. Reflecting on his 400-win career, he said, “I enjoyed it, and it wasn’t work to me. It was a good way to live.”
John is survived by his son Sam Jones and partner Suzanne Fletcher of Scranton, PA; daughter Jennifer Jones of Pulaski, NY, son J.C. Jones and daughter-in-law Collette Jones of Alpharetta, GA; eight grandsons, one granddaughter, former wife Anne Jones of Dawsonville, GA, and companion Pat Craney of Ottawa, CA.
Calling hours will be held from 3 to 6 p.m., Tuesday, June 25th, at the Foster-Hax Funeral Home, 52 Park Street, Pulaski. A private memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family, with burial in Pulaski Cemetery. Donations in John’s memory may be made to the Pulaski Sports Booster Club, 4624 Salina St., Pulaski, NY 13142.
