    • R. R. Thornton Jones Jr. July 11, 2011 R. R. Thornton Jones Jr., age 81, resident of Pulaski, passed away, Monday at the VA Medical Center in Syracuse. Thornton was born May 11, 1930, in Jackson Heights, NY, the son of Rae and Margaret Knox Jones Sr. Thornton was a resident of Pulaski since 1984, he also resided in Parish and Syracuse. He graduated from Mount Herman Preparatory School in Greenfield, MA, in 1947. He also graduated from Hamilton College, in 1951. Thornton served in the United States Navy from 1951 until 1959 as a lieutenant commander. He was employed as a capitan in the Merchant Marines in New York from 1959 until 1989. Thornton was a member of the Master, Mates and Pilot Union in NYC and the Robert Edwards American Legion Post # 358 in Pulaski. Surviving: his companion, June Hilliker of Pulaski; one brother, Winfield "Bud" (Donna) Jones of Pulaski; three nieces, Susan (Bob) Deegan of Camillus, Karen (Pete) Backus of Pulaski, and Beth LaFave of Liverpool; one nephew, Scott (Libby) Jones of Pulaski; eight great-nieces and great-nephews; and two great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, at the Foster-Hax Funeral Home, 52 Park Street, Pulaski with burial in South Richland Cemetery, Fernwood. Donations may be made to the Pulaski Congregational Church, 27 Lake Street, Pulaski; or St. James Episcopal Church, 24 Lake Street, Pulaski, NY 13142.
