Lawrence E. Maitland, 86, Danley Road, died Friday at his home.
Mr. Maitland worked for 12 years at Valley Filling Station, Route 3. During World War II, he was a seaman in service with the Merchant Marines on the Great Lakes. From 1945 until retiring in 1980, he was a millwright for several firms in the Watertown area. After retiring, he enjoyed carpentry work as a hobby.
He was a member of Henderson Fish and Game Club and Rising Light Masonic Lodge 637, Belleville.
Born Aug. 3, 1914, in the town of Ellisburg, he was a son of Frank and Jennie Ridgeway Maitland.
He married Bessie I. Woodard on Sept. 7, 1935, in Adams, with the Rev. William Bishop officiating. The couple lived in the Henderson area all their married life. Mrs. Maitland died June 18, 1992.
Surviving are a son and a daughter-in-law, Allen "Butch" and Catherine, Watertown; a daughter and two sons-in-law, Robert and Judy Brooks and Frank Ross, all of Henderson; a sister, Florence Hicks, Rochester; 12 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
A daughter, Marie Ross, and a brother, Everett, died before him.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Carpenter-Stoodley Funeral Home, Belleville, with the Rev. David L. Wilson, pastor of Henderson United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Woodside Cemetery, Belleville.
Calling hours will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
