- Florence Irene Sheldon Babcock - July 10, 1910 — June 26, 2010. Plot X-206-A. Daughter of Claude and Blanche Huffstater Sheldon. Wife of Elmer W. Babcock (married December 8, 1946 at Camden, New York) & David M. Russell (married April 28. 1979 in Oswego, New York) [Note: David Russell was born December 12, 1903 in Oswego, New York; David died August 30, 1993 in Oswego, New York and he is buried there in Riverside Cemetery.]
Newspaper Obituary — Friday, July 2, 2010 Salmon River News — Pulaski, New York — Florence Sheldon Babcock Russell. died on June 26 at the Saint Luke Health Services, Oswego. She was born to the late Claude and Blanche Huffstater Sheldon on July 10, 1910. She graduated Sandy Creek High School in 1928, and she also graduated from the Rochester Business Institute. She married Elmer W. Babcock on December 8, 1946 at the Community Church in Camden. Mr. Babcock died on May 19, 1974. She married David M. Russell on April 28, 1979 at the Church of the Resurrection in Oswego. Mr. Russell died on August 30, 1993. While living in Pulaski, Florence was an active member of the DAR, the Order of the Eastern Star, the Women's Society for Christian Service and the Park United Methodist Church. In Oswego she became active in the First United Methodist Church and the Church of the Resurrection Episcopal Church. She was a founding member and active in the Friends of the Library. She retired from Oswego County Civil Defense in 1974. She is survived by a brother, W. Robert of Venice, Florida, and sisters Alice Gibbs of Adams and Grace Davis of Syracuse and several nieces and nephews. She is also survived by two stepchildren, David Russell Jr. of Richardson, Texas, Marion Boslaugh of Ashburn, Virginia, Jacqueline Brown of Manlius and their families. Florence was predeceased by a brother C. Radcliffe, sisters Dorothy Horton, Esther Hueyler and Pauline Hadley, also nephews Thomas, John and William Sheldon and Joseph Hueyler. The family invites all friends to the Birdie Manor, 1830 Birdie Square, Oswego at 1:30 p.m. Friday, July 9 for a gathering to remember Florence. Graveside services will be held at the Pulaski Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Arrangements by Foster-Hax Funeral Home, 52 Park Street, Pulaski.
