The funeral for Chester W. McConnell, 79, of 807 Morrison St., will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Reed & Benoit Funeral Home. Burial will be in North Watertown Cemetery.
Mr. McConnell died Wednesday morning at his home, after a long illness.
Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Mr. McConnell was a self-employed carpenter and did home repairs in the Watertown area all his working life.
He enjoyed bowling, hunting and fishing.
Born Oct. 24, 1919, in the town of Cape Vincent, son of Frederick and Edith Calhoun McConnell, he served in the Army during World War II.
He married Kathryn Haggerty on March 2, 1940, in Rodman. She died Jan. 8, 1998, in Watertown.
Surviving are a son, Chester W. Jr., Watertown; four brothers, Leland, Lomita, Calif., Warren, Fernwood, Calvin, Rodman, and Melzer, Mexico; three sisters, Wealtha Prior, Watertown, Etta VanAlstyne, Brownville, and Aleatha Stewart, Marathon; four grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Three brothers and five sisters died before him.
Chet and Katherine were married on March 2, 1940 in Rodman, Jefferson County, NY.
They had three children.
