Dirk Wansink October 11, 2015 Dirk Wansink, age 83, life resident of Fernwood passed away Sunday at the home of his daughter, Becky, who remained at his side as he completed his journey. Dirk was born February 17, 1932 in Syracuse, the son of John and Helen Lacy Wansink. He graduated from Pulaski Academy High School and Cornell University in 1953. He served in the United States Army from 1953 until 1955. Dirk was married to Elna Geer on December 3, 1960 and she passed away February 18, 1993. He owned and operated a family dairy farm for over 50 years. He also worked for Commercial Millwork as a carpenter in Syracuse for 10 years, retiring in 1997. Dirk was a member of the Pulaski Masonic Lodge #457 F&AM and the Fernwood Grange. He was also a member of the Richland Zoning Board and Chairman of the Zoning Board of Appeals, as well as, Dairylea Co-op, Holstein Friesian Association, the GLF and Agway store, Petroleum Board and the cooperative extension service. Surviving are two sons, Nick (Sarah) Wansink of Pulaski and Brent Wansink of Cicero; two daughters, Becky Miller of Mexico and Ellen (Michael) Lowery of Pulaski; two sisters, Janice Beck of Easton, PA and Elizabeth Black of Dallas, OR; 10 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. Dirk was predeceased by his infant sister, Marilyn. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, October 15 at the Foster-Hax Funeral Home, 52 Park Street, Pulaski with burial in South Richland Cemetery in Fernwood. Calling hours were held from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, October 14 at the funeral home. Donations may be made to the Oswego County Cooperative Extension, 3288 Main Street, Mexico, NY 13114.
