- Father was Nathaniel Haggerty and mother was Cornelia Ann Flint, daughter of Abraham H. Flint and great grandaughter of Robert Flint, the Pioneer.
LaMott Haggerty, aka Martin Flint, enlisted in the Army November 26, 1861. Upon going home on leave, he became ill and could not get back on time, so he re-enlisted as "Martin Flint" which was the name of his uncle Martin Flint. He was mustered out of the Civil War and Honorably Discharged on June 8, 1865 at Raleigh, N.C. by reason of close of the war. Mott Haggerty Civil War Commemeration document was presented to his wife Maria and children; Joseph, Frank, Nellie and Charles in July 1913.
Through LaMott's mother Cornelia (Flint) Haggerty, he is a descendant of the famed Robert Flint and his sons noted as the "Five Fighting Flints" of the Battle of Oriskany, New York which helped to turn the tide of the war.
"SOUTH COLUMBIA ... After months of blindness,
weakness, weariness and constant decline, Mott Haggerty's hour of departure
arrived at 3 P. M., July 26, 1926. He was one of the seven children of
Nathaniel Haggerty and Cornelia Flint, and Nathaniel was one of the 12 children
of James Haggerty of 1760 who married Lois Finch in Ballston, Saratoga County.
The family at an early date became residents of Columbia and their primitive
house is still standing east of Columbia Center. Mott Haggerty married Maria
Keller of Frankfort, and they have always resided in this locality. Of their
four children Joseph died, Frank with his family resides at Monticello, Nellie
married Wesley Purple and has four children Roy, Helen, George and Hazel. Mr.
and Mrs. Haggerty have resided in this home for several years, where the aged
widow in her feebleness knows not of her loss. Funeral service was attended at
the M. E. Church at 2 P. M. this (Wednesday) afternoon and interment at the
Columbia Cemetery." ["Richfield Springs Mercury" (Richfield Springs, NY),
