- Newspaper Obituary -Thursday, July 21, 1859 Pulaski Democrat - Pulaski, New York - Sudden Death - On Monday morning last Mr. Townsend Weed, of this village met with almost instantaneous death. He and Mr. David Bentley were engaged in morning in a field of grass, but in different parts of it. Mr. Bentley having finished the part upon which he was at work, did not observe Mr. Weed, but supposed he had gone to drink. He went a short distance, himself, to his house, drank and commenced to mow on that part of the field where Mr. Weed had been at work. When about half way around it, he found Mr. W. lying on his back, dead. He had put his scythe into the grass, as if about to quit work, stepped a few feet to the fence, and apparently, lain down. He had, probably, been there half an hour when found. The coroner's jury returned a verdict that he came to his death from an attack of heart disease, brought on by heat and exertion. Mr. Weed was 56 years old, had long been a resident here, and was an industrious man and an exemplary citizen. His funeral discourse will be preached on Sunday morning, at the Congregational Church, by the Rev. Mr. Chaney.
