Rachael A. Gayne, age 84, of Edwards, passed away on June 28, 2011, at Mercy Health Care in Watertown.
Rachael was born on January 17, 1927, to Nelson and Eloise (Christman) Camidge. She attended school in Natural Bridge and then graduated from Lowville Academy in 1942. A marriage to Clayton LaJuett and Albert Gayne ended in divorce.
Rachael had worked as a waitress and short order cook at the Red Moon Diner and had previously worked as a seamstress for Levi Strauss in California and at Olga Knitting Mill in Watertown making clothes for Lane Bryant and Bobby Brooks. She had also worked for Denny's Restaurant in different states. Rachael enjoyed sewing, gambling and going to garage sales.
Rachael is survived by two daughters, Wanda LaJuett of New York and Connie Gaines of Norwich, NY; three brothers, Emeron Camidge and Gene Camidge both of Carthage and Nelson Camidge; a sister, Helen Chisamore of Carthage; seven grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
She is predeceased by her parents; three sons, Clayton Charles LaJuett, Nelson James LaJuett and Terry Lee LaJuett; three brothers, Donald, Cleon and Quentin; and three sisters, Alice Hunkins, Eva Breesee and Vivian Zeller.
There will be no calling hours or funeral service. Burial will be private at North Watertown Cemetery.
Arrangements are entrusted to French Funeral Home.
