    • hursday August 2, 1934. CENTRAL SQUARE LAD DROWNED IN CANAL Caughdenoy - Funeral services for Maurice DeWispelaire, 22, Central Square youth who was drowned early Saturday morning in the abandoned canal locks at Caughdenoy, were held Monday in Central Square with interment having been made in Hillside cemetery. The young man had gone with a group of friends for a swim in the canal shortly after midnight. He dived from an old lock into about four feet of water and failed to come to the surface. It is believed that his head struck a rock. The body was recovered about 20 minutes later although efforts to revive the swimmer by means of an Inhalator, brought to the scene from Syracuse by state police, were futile. The victim is survived by his wife, one child, his parents and several brothers and sisters.
