Dorothy M. Gareau, 80, Malone, died Wednesday at Alice Hyde Nursing Home, where she had been a resident since April 25, 1996.
Mrs. Gareau was a personnel manager for F.W. Woolworth Co. until retiring in 1970, after more than 20 years. She was a cafeteria worker at Harrison School.
Born July 23, 1918, in Belmont, a daughter of Clarence and Margaret Connor Drown, she was a 1936 graduate of Franklin Academy and married Donald Santy. He died before her. She married Paul J. Gareau on June 22, 1962, in Alburg, Vt. Mr. Gareau died Dec. 9, 1988.
Mrs. Gareau was a communicant of Notre Dame Church and a member of its Altar and Rosary Society.
Surviving are a daughter, Lynda Santy Norcross Jones, Malone; a stepson; three stepdaughters; a sister, Kathryn Beck, East Syracuse, four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Two brothers, Herman and Sherman Drown, and five sisters, Ella Beck, Rae Skurka, Hazel Machabee, Marietta Ewald and Florence Drown, died before her.
A funeral Mass will be said at 10 a.m. Saturday at Notre Dame Church with the Rev. Bill Edwards officiating. Spring burial will be in the parish cemetery.
Calling hours will be 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Bruso-Desnoyers Funeral Home, with members of Notre Dame Altar and Rosary Society conducting a wake service at 2:30 p.m. Donations may be made to Alice Hyde Nursing Home Activity Fund.
