They settled on what is known as the Frank Bulen farm, enduring all the privations of an early settlers life. They managed to clear up and sow to winter wheat ten acres of land. They then traded places with David Bulen, which is now the home of Sylvester Dyke. They lived there many years, raising their family, and by diligent and faithful service they managed to clear up and purchase a number of acres of land, 240. They then purchased a small place living there until he died in 1889, in his 77th year.
